“And through it all, through it all… It is well”
How many of you recognize that song just by those couple of words? Probably most of you.. This was a common request when I put a Q & A up on Instagram for song requests. I am excited to do this one.

This song is one that I always hear at the right moment. I think God does that a lot for me. One of my favorite ways to worship Him is through song. I love music and I feel closest to Him when I am singing to Him.
This song speaks to anyone going through a hard or trying time. It’s a reminder that God is there for us, always, and no matter what.. it is well.
“Grander earth has quaked before Moved by the sound of His voice Seas that are shaken and stirred Can be calmed and broken for my regard”
God is powerful. There are a few times in the bible that we see Him using this power in a mighty way…
Judges 5:4
“LORD, when You went out from Seir, When You marched from the field of Edom, The earth quaked, the heavens also dripped, Even the clouds dripped water.”
Psalm 68:8
“The earth quaked; The heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God; Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.”
Yet, He can stop it all just for us. All the chaos, all the stirring, all the shaking, He stops for us.
“And through it all, through it all My eyes are on You And through it all, through it all It is well And through it all, through it all My eyes are on You And it is well with me”
This is the part that gets me. I am either feeling one of two ways when I hear this song. In awe of Him and His power, and I sing this part so loud because I feel so close to Him. Or, I am in doubt and struggling, and sing this part a little quieter because I know I need to put my eyes on Him in everything but I might not be that current moment.
Either way is okay. It’s okay to sometimes not feel the same when you’re singing to Him, and to feel like you are struggling with that. It can be a reminder to
“And far be it from me to not believe Even when my eyes can’t see And this mountain that’s in front of me Will be thrown into the midst of the sea And through it all, through it all My eyes are on You And through it all, through it all It is well And through it all, through it all My eyes are on You And it is well It is well”
“And this mountain that’s in front of me will be thrown into the midst of the sea”
WOW. The amount of relief I feel after singing that is crazy. Our problems sometimes make us feel like we’re drowning, like we can never see the other side, but God can EASILY solve it. He has the power to help us overcome anything. What we see as huge is just a tiny little thing to Him, and that gives me so much peace. Knowing that He can do anything no matter how big I think it is.
“So let go my soul and trust in Him The waves and wind still know His name So let go my soul and trust in Him The waves and wind still know His name So let go my soul and trust in Him The waves and wind still know His name The waves and wind still know His name And it is well with my soul (sing it everybody)”
This part reminds me of a verse. Trusting in Him can be hard, when we are going through something difficult. I definitely have struggled with it a lot lately, but when we finally lay it all at His feet and know that He has never let us down… that’s when we find relief and peace in the mess.
Psalm 9:10
“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
“It is well with my soul It is well with my soul It is well It is well with my soul Oh it is well with my soul (’cause of who you are) Oh it is well with my soul It is well with my soul It is well It is well with my soul It is well It is well with my soul It is well It is well with my soul And through it all, through it all My eyes are on You And through it all, through it all It is well Lord And through it all, through it all My eyes are on You And it is well with me”
The part of the song where we just lift up our voices in unison to Him. It is well. Whatever season of life you’re going through, He is there. Keep your eyes on Him and trust in Him, and He will handle it.

Often times we think God won’t fix it for us and we get upset, because we’ve seen Him help another person instead of us. But that’s not the case. God’s timing for everything is perfect, and we need to remember that. Stop trying to take control of the timing when all we can see is a tiny portion of the plan. God has the full picture.
